Awana (Ages 3–12)
Awana is an organization that works with churches all over the world. It began as a children’s program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago in 1941. The pastor, Lance Latham, and his youth director, Art Rorheim, met to develop weekly clubs that would appeal to children, leading them to salvation and growing them in faith and service to God. The founders of Awana derived the name from the first letters of “Approved workmen are not ashamed” 2 Timothy 2:15.
Awana offers discipleship and evangelism programs for children. Seeking to actively involve parents, church leaders, and mentors, more than a million children and youth, 250,000 volunteers, and 170-plus field staff gather weekly to participate in Awana in over 18,000 churches in the U.S. and internationally. Today, more than 12,000 U.S. churches run Awana in all 50 states. Awana can also be found in over 6,000 churches in 109 other countries.
Children love the program! So come check out the Sweet Home chapter of Awana! We meet every Wednesday evening at 7:15 p.m.
