DAILY DEVOTIONAL 10: Free to Give Generously “Nehemiah 2: 4-5” 4 The king said to me, “What is it you want?”Then I prayed to the God of heaven, 5 and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.”
When news of Jerusalem’s broken-down walls and gates reached Nehemiah he wept, mourned, and prayed fervently to God. He did not ignore the need like he could have. He wasn’t in living in Jerusalem at the time. He was working as cupbearer to the king in Persia. It would have been easier for him to ignore the need of those around him and convenient for him to rationalize away the burden that God on his heart for this work.…
